Onflo founder and managing director, Mr. Dominic Cheng, is well placed to head a group with a strong computer and software focus. His acknowledged academic and practical expertise has brought him many key industry awards and appointments. Mr. Cheng's important work on standardizing character codes for Asian languages led to his receiving the first ever Hong Kong Information Technology Achiever of the Year Award in 1990.

THE ONFLO STORY 
Onflo was founded in 1976. Its insights into a rapidly developing industry were soon spotted by the Japanese calculators giant - Casio - who two years latter appointed the company authorized distributor for its calculators. 
Within a year, Onflo had proved itself so well that it was entrusted with the dealership for the full range of Casio products. 

By 1981, when computing was really coming of age, Onflo computer Company Limited was set up as a group subsidiary. Another brand leader, Hewlett-Packard, chose the new company to handle its highly-regarded computers and computer products. 

Computing now looked as if it could one day revolutionize education and entertainment in the home. Onflo was quick to see the potential, and entered into a distributorship agreement with another top name - Atari. 

The results were amazing. In 1981, Onflo single-handedly created the computer games market in Hong Kong! 
But this was no nine days' wonder. Onflo was in fact systematically refining and building up the quality sales and customer service concepts that had won it so much acclaim all over Hong Kong - in both office and home. 
A Key Role in Education 
Its rich knowledge of computer applications gave it a strong competitive edge. In 1983 came another breakthrough that took Onflo service into the heart of Hong Kong's future - her schools. 

Hong Kong Education Department awarded Onflo a contract to supply a wide range of equipment for a pilot scheme in computer studies, in 30 selected secondary schools. 

These schools were soon benefiting from Onflo's quality training and maintenance. They were also getting top support from the dedicated team chosen to train these first teachers. The influence on Hong Kong computing of just this one early initiative was immense. 
The group's marketing and agency skills were now much in demand by manufactures around the world. Charles River Data Systems with its Universe 32-bit super microcomputers joined the top-of-the-line products marketed and distributed by Onflo. 
China Enterprise 
Onflo showed its international reach and negotiating skills when, after time-consuming and complex discussions, it obtained approval from the United States authorities for the first ever technology transfer into China of a high performance super micro computer production line. 

In 1984, Onflo took the 32-bit UNIX computer system into China, marking the start of a systematic marketing and support thrust. 
Since then Onflo has built up a close business relationship with China's Tianjin Computer Factory. It has also introduced major developments of its own, including Chinese character line printers and technology transfer for a digital hardness meter widely used in the construction industry. 
An Expanded Group Tracks New Development 
The logical next step for the group was decentralization, and two autonomous divisions were set up - Onflo Technical Services Limited and Onflo Marketing Limited. 

Components soon started to build important revenue for the group. She found her own natural niches in autonomous Onflo subsidiary companies, Onflo Components Limited. 

Today the group's maturity and solid experience is reflected in ten subsidiaries. Between them they reflect the whole of the digital revolution - from handy calculators to complex information systems, from electronic music to entertainment and educational applications. 
The enviable record of growth in overall product sales has been matched by strong activity in components and technical services. 
Fresh  Opportunities 
A recently formed subsidiary, Onflo Wines & Spirits Limited, explores fresh ground. 

It brings quality wine from all four corners of the World , to the discriminating Hong Kong market and to the region. 
With importation from Chile, California, Spain and, of course France, Onflo believes that the most important concern to the customers is the value of the products rather the abstract image. This will create strong revenues and build secure assets from  products with excellent quality at affordable prices. A new venture, it is still founded on the same basic Onflo principles - detailed product knowledge, excellent customer relations, and quality service to both supplier and end-user. 
LOCAL EXPERTISE IN AN INTERNATIONAL SETTING
Although Onflo has its headquarters in Hong Kong it has always had an international flavor, thanks to the range of products it represents. 

Onflo is also very alert to select opportunities in China. Of special note is the establishment in 1995 of  the Casio Electronics (Zhong Shan) Company Limited, a joint-venture factory with Casio Computer Company Limited for the production of the "Casio" brand electronic calculators in Zhong Shan, Guangdong. 
This venture will contribute significantly to the transfer of new technologies which are helping to transform China, and will add significantly to group revenue.  The joint-venture factory has already made significant in-road into the secondary education system of China. It has also won numerous awards from the local government, including the Industrial Safety Award and the top 10 Foreign-Currency Generating Enterprises among some 2,000 joint-venture/foreign investment enterprises in Zhong Shan City. 
Encouraged by the success of the Zhong Shan factory, Onflo is in the process of setting up another project with Casio for the production of digital watches in Guan Du, Shao Guan City, to develop high technology industry in the mountain areas of the northern part of the Guangdong Province. 
A SHOWCASE FOR QUALITY
In the heart of Hong Kong's business and tourist district, Tsimshatsui, the spacious Onflo showroom shows how seriously the company takes the showcasing of the products it represents. 

From musical keyboards to computer keyboards, these lively and elegant displays attract customers from around the region. 

The Tsimshatsui operation also demonstrates how efficiently and quickly the staff deals with maintenance and repair over the entire Casio range. 

The group also has a number of service and sales centers in China. 
Onflo maintains a high profile in the community, frequently mounting special exhibitions and seminars on computer topics to inform and educate.
